We purchased this property in 1999, since then a lot of work has been completed. Here is a brief list:
Agriculture –With the use of appropriate technology, and the latest technology on drip and micro irrigation systems; we are presently organically growing potatoes, parsnips, peanuts, garlic, onions, parsley, pineapples, prickly pears, a few varieties of corn and beans, tomatoes, leeks, cilantro, cumin, thyme, basil, marjoram, carrots, lettuces, beets, coffee, plantains, bananas, apples, grapes, peaches, pears, maracuya, granadilla, figs, sour sop or guanabana, sunflowers, avocados, watermelons, cantaloupe and several types of squashes, salt-wort, date palms, custar apple, chirimoya, mamey, genip tree, papayas, babacos, sweet potato, coconuts, plum and many others that grow only in this part of the world; our medicinal garden is also expanding literally by the day also many ornamental plants, orchids and a deep jungle project. Our Fibonacci spiral vegetable garden is all planted and moving towards the sun, we will post pictures soon. We are a hundred percent organic and struggle sometimes with a few bugs, but we are getting better at it as we get to know the local plants, remedies and insects.
All of our water irrigation tanks are finished, full and operating; we have 90% completed the installation of dripping and micro-aspersion system.
We had and plan to have again: chickens, ducks, geese, cows, goats and guinea pigs.
Our drumming circle and bon fireplace is all done. We already had several good parties. Nothing like being almost in the middle of nowhere; and being able to see the starts at night and a UFO here and there once in a while.
The ponds are all done and operational with their small waterfalls and the ducks, fish, geese’s and pigeons are really happy with their home.
The most important paths are done, but there are a few more we’d like to work on. The bee houses are all set up and in place. They love the sunflowers, we planter hundreds of them, a beautiful sight among hundreds of flowers throughout the property.
We have completed a cactus garden and planted hundreds of new edible prickly pears from cactus trees.
We have a 4-bedroom house that was on the property when we bought it; the volunteers and visitors are using it.
We are almost done with building a two story Pagoda and have plans of building several more around the property. We also have plans of building a wooden pyramid like structure. We produce our own humus organic fertilizer.
We have 25KW of electricity provided by the electric company, and we also have 10KW diesel and gasoline generators.
We have some electrical solar panels and hot water solar panels as well.
